During the 15th edition of the Young Sociologists' Congress we invite You to an interactive workshop exploring the educational paths of Palestinian youths in the context of restricted access and occupation. Beginning with a brief methodology and context overview, followed by the more practical session that will allow participants to engage in a peer-to-peer learning environment while working on case studies and real-life narratives used to better understand experiences of Palestinian students. Through discussion and collaborative analysis, the workshop will encourage critical reflection on how conditions under occupation shape educational opportunities and outcomes. It also invites participants to consider future students’ collaboration and aims to show potential impact that informal and international academic relations can have. Detailed program:
1. Navigating the Field: Study Results and Methodology - grassroot peer to peer approach to interviews in practice.
In this session, we will present the findings of our study and introduce our grassroots, peer-to-peer approach to interviewing. We will walk you through the process of gathering data in a complex environment and share our reflections on the researcher's positionality and the nuances of international cooperation.
2. Collaborative Material Analysis.
We invite you to work directly with our research material. By analyzing interview fragments, we will map the primary issues with access to higher education in Palestine and contextualize them within the broader framework of the occupation in the West Bank. Together, we will explore how to conceptualize education as a form of resistance and identify the challenges inherent in this process.
3. Discussion session.
We will conclude the workshop with an open discussion on the possibilities of building academic cooperation and its role in building solidarity. We invite you to reflect on the researcher’s responsibility in documenting narratives and the place of academia in creating knowledge.
Workshop in English.
