About this Event
This workshop will provide an introduction to the Hippocampal Subfield Group (HSG) harmonized protocol for subfield segmentation in the hippocampal body, with hands-on training led by experts.
Workshop attendance is free, but seats are limited. Registration is required to attend. This is an in-person only event.
No prior experience with manual segmentation is required. If you are new to the study of the hippocampus, we recommend attending the half-day session on May 7.
The workshop is 1.5 days, May 7 - 8, 2026. Hosted by the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. Located in the Knapp Building at 87 E. Ferry St., Detroit, MI 48202. Parking is available on-site in a secure lot for $9/day.
May 7, 2:30-5:00pm: An introduction to hippocampal and medial temporal lobe anatomy in the human brain, and an overview of the ITK-Snap software that we will use. Attendance is optional, and recommend for people at the novice level.
May 8, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm: Instruction and demonstration of the steps for the HSG harmonized protocol for subfield segmentation in the hippocampus body, including time to practice and gain direct feedback from experts in the room.
To attend the training: Register for May 8. Optional to also register for May 7.
Workshop materials and demonstration images will be shared in digital format. Attendees are expected to bring a laptop with ITKSnap software installed to participate in the hands-on training portions throughout both days.
Refreshments will be provided, and lunch will be provided May 8. All other travel accommodations and meals are the responsibility of the attendee.
