Thanks to the generous support of Clear Space’s first-ever grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Clear Space will present the world premiere of two new 45-minute plays for audiences ages 4-12 this summer, both on our main stage and on tour! But before we premiere these pieces, we invite our patrons to attend a preview reading of the second production, Pinocchio 20XX, by Clare Hughes.Join us Tuesday, May 12 at 4 pm for a free reading of this brand new play. As audience members, you will have the opportunity to share feedback on the play before it is fully produced as part of our summer children’s theater series.
About Pinocchio 20XX:
This contemporary/futuristic retelling of the classic tale of a lonely toymaker, their toy child, and the journey to becoming Real.
When game designer Gepp designs a software that will interact like a real child, robotics expert Dr. Blue builds a prototype, but warns that the toy still needs to learn a lot from Gepp– like right from wrong, truth from fiction, and how to be Real. Gepp tries to teach the toy at home and by sending it to school, and even by adding an update to tell it how to behave. But there are so many other influences around the toy that everything gets mixed up inside. When Gepp and the toy are trapped by another robot in Dr. Blue’s lab, only the toy can save them. Science meets magic (and real life!) when the toy reaches deep into its data to save the day and finally become Real.
