Join artist Joan Son for a paper folding workshop held in conjunction with the exhibition "Ruth Asawa Through Line."
Please note that these workshops have limited capacity for participants. Additional spots will be first come, first served. Recommended age for participants: 13+.
This workshop will be a 1 ½ hour sit down class from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to start. The class will begin at 9:30 a.m. and participants should plan to stay for the duration of the workshop.
About the artist:
Joan Son is a Houston-based artist who has worked in the medium of paper, based in the discipline of origami, since 1993, when she debuted her art in the windows of Tiffany & Co. She has created numerous large-scale installations for public and private venues, as well as small works for museum shops, such as the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Her work has been widely exhibited including the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, where she was a participating artist in CraftTexas 2008. All of her works are crafted one at a time, using the finest Japanese and international papers. She is a member of Origami USA and attends their conventions in New York City, where she studies with origami masters from around the world.

This program takes place in the Menil Drawing Institute, located at 1412 W. Main St. As always, Menil programs are free and open to all.
