About this Event
York travelled with the Lewis & Clark Expedition as an enslaved member, believing that his efforts there might win him freedom. His journey was one of bravery and of helping the group to survive and fulfill their goals. As part of our teachers' outreach for Black History Month, we are offering a free workshop for teachers on the resources available on York. York Place on the Downtown Mall was named for the explorer, and the area where the Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center stands today was the likely residence of York's father, Old York. We will introduce you to curriculum, artworks, and projects for elementary school classes, middle school, and high school. Though we would prefer that you register on this site, you can also drop by any time from 10 AM -12 PM February 22nd. Please email us with any questions at [email protected]. We look forward to sharing ideas and projects.
