Film festivals are one of the most important ways to reach an audience with your animated film. This is where your film can be seen, gain attention, and maybe even win awards. At the same time, festivals are shortcuts to meeting other filmmakers and building new contacts and a stronger network in the industry.Filmværksted Viborg and Arsenalet invites you to a workshop on festival distribution with animation director Tobias Rud, producer Rebecca Pruzan, and film curator for Viborg Animation Festival Sandra Brunkow Simonsen. Together, they’ll give you deeper insight into film festivals and show you from scratch how to get your animated film out into the world.
What will you learn at the workshop?
The workshop gives you a practical introduction to festival distribution and how to increase your chances of getting selected. Among other things, we’ll cover:
🔶how the international festival landscape works
🔶how to create a targeted festival strategy
🔶how festivals select and program films
🔶premiere requirements and festival exclusivity rules
🔶how to develop an effective press kit for submissions
🔶festival fees and rights
In short: everything you need to give your film the best possible chances at festivals.

New grant pool for festival distribution
The workshop is part of a new national initiative from the film workshops aimed at helping talent get their films out into the world.
As part of the initiative, a fund of 100,000 DKK has been established, which you can apply to for covering Danish and international festival fees. You can apply for up to 3,000 DKK if you have received production support from a film workshop.
The fund launches on June 1 on Filmværksted Danmark — so keep an eye on the site.
