Create a unique textile artwork inspired by Rana Begum’s stairwell installation using hand-stitching and fabric manipulation techniques, led by textile artist Helen Peters. Explore the interplay of form, colour, and light in this hands-on textile workshop led by textile artist Helen Peters. Inspired by Rana Begum’s stairwell installation, No. 1367 Mesh, you’ll have the chance to create a series of small textile pieces using translucent fabrics and a variety of techniques, including hand-stitching to layer and gather, and 3D shibori, a fabric manipulation technique using steam.
During the session, you’ll learn how to manipulate fabric to build texture and visual interest, then join your individual pieces together to create your own unique textile response.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit Rana Begum’s stairwell installation for inspiration. By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a striking, one-of-a-kind textile artwork, enriched with beads, buttons, and your own creative touch.
