About this Event
Discovering pressed plants in books is a common occurrence, reflecting a long history of widespread yet varied practice. While such encounters are evocative and delightful, they can present considerable conservation and collection management challenges, especially in the absence of best practice standards. Drawing on a wide range of examples as a frame of reference, this seminar is an invitation to discuss the care and possible interpretation of local examples.
Outline of the workshop:
2.30-3.30: Dr Anna Svensson, University of Uppsala, will deliver her talk, Milstein Room, Univesity Library
3.30-4.30: Visit to small display of pressed plants in books from the University Library's collection
Dr Anna Svensson is an affiliated researcher at the Department of History of Science and Ideas at Uppsala University. Her work explores the intersection of the history of botanical collections and the history of the book, with a particular interest in collaboration between the research community and collection management.
