Instructor: Julie KecheleAlso known as a VERSAL, a large, decorated capital letter is used to indicate the start of a block of text, or alone as an initial. In this workshop, you will design your own versal. There will be lots of traceable historic examples to copy, or design your own more contemporary letter in whatever style you choose. No calligraphic experience necessary. We will sketch first in pencil, then transfer to better paper. A variety of decorating materials will be available, including fine-point markers, inks, water-based paint, colored pencil, and metal foil (faux gilding). Another option is to use dry embossing to frame your letter. Use your finished letter for a greeting card, book cover or page, or as framed art.
