Workshop with Maestro Yamil Cuédo Ferrera
St Ninian’s Church Hall, 40 Comely Bank, Edinburgh EH4 1AG
Saturday, 2nd May
Join us for an exciting afternoon of Cuban dance with internationally experienced dancer and teacher Maestro Yamil Cuédo Ferrera. Dive into the richness of Afro-Cuban movement, musicality and energy in these dynamic intermediate-level workshops.
Schedule
5:00 – 6:00 PM
Salsa with Rumba (Guaguanco) – Intermediate Level
In this workshop, we will explore Rumba Guaguancó, a traditional Afro-Cuban dance and music style known for its vibrant rhythm and playful interaction between partners. It features a dynamic exchange where the man attempts the “vacunao” (a symbolic, flirtatious gesture), while the woman responds with elegance and control, skillfully avoiding it. It is an energetic and expressive dance deeply connected to live percussion.
We will then integrate these elements into our salsa combinations, enriching your style, connection, and Afro-Cuban vocabulary.
6:00 -7:00 PM
Salsa with Afro(Shangó and Yemayá) – Intermediate Level
In this workshop, we will explore Afro-Cuban dance through the rich traditions of the Orishas, particularly Shangó and Yemayá.
We will begin by reviewing some characteristic movements of Shangó for men and Yemayá for women, focusing on their unique energy and expression.
Shangó represents fire, power, and rhythm, expressed through strong, dynamic, and energetic movements, while Yemayá embodies the ocean, with graceful, wave-like, and expansive motion.
We will then integrate these elements into our salsa combinations, enriching your style, connection, and Afro-Cuban vocabulary.
