Workshop Description:
What does it mean to preach with conviction, to be “compelled to preach” (1 Corinthians 9:16) in a divisive time? Convictional preaching requires belief and commitment, an abiding belief that resurrection is still possible in the face of death and a renewed commitment to a cause greater than ourselves for the sake of a mission greater than our lives. In this seminar, participants will reflect on what they believe, consider how they might cultivate lives that preach, and discover how to preach recognizably Christian sermons in a divisive time.
About the Facilitator
Jared E. Alcántara (PhD, Princeton Theological Seminary) is professor of preaching, holder of the Paul W. Powell Endowed Chair in Preaching, and Director of the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching at Baylor University’s Truett Theological Seminary. An ordained Baptist minister, he has served as a youth pastor, associate pastor, and teaching pastor in Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, and New Jersey. Dr. Alcántara is passionate about equipping students to preach God’s Word in ways that are faithful, effective, clear, creative, and inspiring.
