Join us for a workshop on scholar-activism led by QMUL Visiting Fellow Caroline Levine
About this Event

This workshop will focus on crossing the divide between research and activism, including both the risks and the rewards. It will address the central question: what is a scholar-activist? And it will focus in detail on what kinds of activism make a difference. Open to HSS staff and students at QMUL, this event will be an opportunity for colleagues from across the faculty to come together to discuss ways to fulfil the University’s mission ‘to engage locally, nationally, and internationally to create a better world.’

Caroline Levine is the David and Kathleen Ryan Professor of Humanities at Cornell University and a Visiting Fellow at Queen Mary University of London. She is the author of four books: The Activist Humanist: Form and Method in the Climate Crisis (2023), Forms: Whole, Rhythm, Hierarchy, Network (2015), Provoking Democracy: Why We Need the Arts (2007), and The Serious Pleasures of Suspense: Victorian Realism and Narrative Doubt (2003). In addition to her scholarship, Levine is an activist and public intellectual working to address climate change and sustainability.

Location:

Arts Two Building Senior Common Room (4th floor) on QMUL’s Mile End campus: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/about/howtofindus/mileend/
