This is an advanced level colour exercise class. Using Wessex work as your tool, you will learn how the placement of different colours and types of thread impacts your final product. To start the class you will be given a traditional Wessex pattern to stitch. From there you will build up to designing your own stitch pattern on grid paper, which you can then use to experiment with thread colour and position. You’ll come away with a good foundation and confidence to use Wessex in your future stitched pieces.
This class has 12 spaces available.
This workshop includes a catered afternoon tea from 1-2pm.
Materials to bring:
• Fabric – 1 or 2 reasonably substantial fabrics, big enough to fit in your hoop.
• Threads – bring a selection of your favourite threads, 8 to 10 different ones. Look for different textures, types.
• Hoops – either the Nurge No2 or a 22cm circular one. Two hoops will allow you to move between samples, but it’s not mandatory.
• Needles – embroidery/crewel needles sizes 1-5 would be good, otherwise a selection of sharp needles.
• Pliers – may be required to pull the needle through the fabric at the end of the stitching.
• Tweezers/stitch unpick.
• Your usual sewing kit; including sharp scissors (fabric and thread), thimble if used, pins, magnifying glass if used, additional lighting if desired, etc.
• Paper and pen for making notes.
• Felt pens or coloured pencils in a similar colour to your threads. This is to help with your stitch designing (only if you have them; some will be available to use).
• Gay Eaton’s ‘Wessex Stitchery’ book – but only if you have one.
