About this Event

Working More Radically Within Your Organisation

Three workshops from RadHR looking at how progressive organisations can make their internal ways of working more deeply reflect their values.

  1. Doing DEI (Mon 30 Sep 18:00)
  2. Being Class-Conscious (Mon 21 Oct 18:00)
  3. Introduction to Radical HR (Mon 18 Nov 18:00)

Who are these sessions for?
  • People who want to start analysing or changing their organisation’s mix of people, dynamics and priorities
  • Organisations who struggle to reach and involve people from outside their middle-class ‘comfort zone’ & are looking for practical tools.
  • Any progressive or ‘radical’ organisations wanting to think more about how they can enact their values through their internal policies and processes.

Why Attend?
  • The masterclasses will share insights from not just the facilitators, but the large range of organisations they’ve worked with to try and create more values-led internal cultures
  • The masterclasses will offer practical examples of e.g. ‘radical’ pay policies to look at as well as allow for reflection and discussion as to how these might (or might not) work for you organisation

Doing DEI (Session 1 of 3)

A problem has happened at work, or you have spare capacity. Whatever the reason, you now want to consider or change what your organisation is like for people in 1+ marginalised groups.

You come across a field of work that could be a good place to start: diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) / EDI / D&I / DEIB / JEDI.

The more you search online, the more you find, but it’s hard to make it relevant. You’re in a 6-person team, and a FTSE 100 company’s ideas and methods around marginalised people are not necessarily something you can learn from or apply.

If you want to think about what it might be like to ‘do DEI’ in your small organisation, this session is for you.

Taking examples from freelance DEI worker Taz Rasul, we’ll cover:

  • What’s usually meant by ‘DEI’, and is that version right for you?
  • Scenarios, methods and challenges that you might come across if you start working on DEI in your small organisation

RadHR

These workshops will be facilitated by members of the RadHR team. RadHR is about practically applying anti-oppressive ideas to how social change organisations and workplaces organise internally. It offers alternatives to off-the-shelf HR policies and processes, which tend to replicate the very oppressions that our organisations strive to challenge.

This session will be led by Taz Rasul, a freelance trainer and programme designer who experiments with ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’ (DEI) work in small organisations and communities. Through her projects, she’s trying to discover how everyday small businesses - the 99% of businesses - relate to DEI, why they might spend precious time and capacity on it, and what good DEI can look like inside of small organisations.
