Margaret Rustin and Verity Emanuel | Child Psychotherapists at work across boundaries: the search for a psychic home in a harsh and fractured world

Margaret Rustin is an Honorary Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and a Child Analyst at the BPAS. She was Head of Child Psychotherapy at the Tavistock 1986 – 2009, Dean of Postgraduate Studies 1993-99, and subsequently Chair of the Professional Committee. She continues to teach at the Tavistock and the British Psychoanalytical Society and also in many countries across the globe.

In 2005 she was made an Honorary Affiliate Member of the British Psychoanalytic Society.

Her publications include many journal articles and books, and a volume of her collected clinical papers entitled “Finding a Way to the Child” was published in the International Library of Psychoanalysis in 2023.

Verity Emanuel is a member of the ‘Association of Child Psychotherapists’. She is a Child Psychotherapist working in both an NHS Community ‘Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service’, and a 0–3-year-old ‘Parent-Infant Relationship Service’ in Sheffield, UK. She is a visiting lecturer at ‘Sheffield Hallam University’, and a Trustee of the ‘Manchester Psychoanalytic Development Trust’

Diane Turner| Metabolising psychic states: Traversing the Mind/Body boundary in a chronic disorder

Diane Turner is a consultant psychotherapist trained at the Tavistock Clinic, and a psychoanalyst and member of the British Psychoanalytical Society, working in The T1DE Service (Type 1 diabetes and disordered eating) at Kings College Hospital, and in private practice. She originally trained as a general and psychiatric nurse, working at The Cassel Hospital and the eating disorders service at Springfield Hospital. She is a training analyst for the Association of Child Psychotherapists, and is editor of the British Psychoanalytical Society bulletin.

Chair: Audrey James, Audrey is an adult psychotherapist who trained with Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) and Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy. She is the founder of Restore Counselling & Psychotherapy, a private practice, based in Gloucester. Audrey is also the founder of Restore Black, a new initiative that is committed to helping restore mental well-being in the black community. She works at The Bridge Foundation as an adult psychotherapist.
