Wool carries memory. Learn to scour, spin, dye, and weave it — three Saturdays, one collaborative piece.
About this Event

Wool carries memory.

From the sheep's back to the loom, every step in the textile tradition — scouring, carding, spinning, dyeing, weaving — is a form of knowledge passed hand to hand across generations. Wool: Field to Loom is a three-session working series led by Samantha Rose that teaches this knowledge as a living practice.

This is not a demonstration. You will work with your hands across all three sessions, building skill and confidence at each stage — and finishing with a collaborative woven piece made from the fibers you have processed together.

SESSION 1 — Scouring & Carding

Saturday, August 29· 10:00AM–1:00 PM

Raw fleece arrives with lanolin, debris, and the character of where it came from. In this session, participants learn to scour (wash) and card raw wool — preparing it for spinning. You will leave with carded fiber ready for the next session.

SESSION 2 — Spinning & Natural Dyeing

Saturday, September 12 · 10:00AM–1:00 PM

Carded fiber becomes yarn. Participants are introduced to drop spindle and wheel spinning, then move into natural dyeing — using plant-based dyes to bring color into the fiber. No synthetic materials.

SESSION 3 — Weaving & Collaborative Finish

Saturday, October 3 · 10:00AM–1:00 PM

The series culminates on the loom. Participants weave their processed and dyed fiber into a shared textile — a collaborative piece made from everything the group has done together.
