About this Event
Woodland Wisdom this month is with Emma the herpetologist at the Wesleyan Arboretum. We will be hiking between 1.5 miles to 2 and it is a moderate hike due to tree roots, rocks, and slight inclines. This hike can be done with a cane or trekking poles, if needed.
Woodland Wisdom is a series where we bring in experts in order to learn about their fields in the outdoors. We will hike and talk and get some practical experience. Everyone involved is doing this for free, please consider adding a donation.
Emma the herpetologist is going to give us a peek into the lives of local amphibians and reptiles.
Wesleyan Arboretum offers a wonderful nature classroom. With lots of forest floor, fallen trees and decomposing logs, and the creek, we should be able to see some scaly and slithery friends.
We will meet at the tennis courts. Use entrance #5 off of Tucker Road. Take the road all the way back, past the lake, and park by the tennis courts. Parking is free and there are restrooms on the corner of Mathews Athletic Center.
What to bring:
-Water, bring more than you think you need
-Closed-toe shoes, sneakers work just fine
-Moisture wicking clothing, workout clothes work well
-Tick/mosquito repellant
-Sunscreen, if needed
-Pack, nothing fancy, it just gets frustrating toting a water bottle through a hike. Plus, how will you carry your snacks?
-An enquiring mind
Come ready to learn and leave the body/diet talk, speakers, and hatred and bigotry at home.
