Wondering about Qi?The awareness of qi and moving practices such as qi gong and tai chi bring many health benefits as noted in several evidence-based studies and research journals. The practice of qi gong dates back thousands of years. According to Chinese medicine, qi is energy or life force that flows throughout the body. Working with qi can lead to relaxation, peace, and calm. Qi gong (energy practice) and tai chi form connect body, mind, and breath to facilitate the movement of qi throughout the body rather than allowing for stagnation that may cause pain or disease. Harvard Medical Publishing, the Tufts Nutrition Newsletter, the American Heart Association, and the Arthritis Foundation reported that the complementary use of eastern and western medicine improves balance, strength, flexibility, and mobility. In several studies, practicing qigong, and tai chi have been effective in chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, hypertension, and sleep problems as well as stress, anxiety, and depression.
