Introducing Wonder: the 6th Learning from Excellence conference, presented in collaboration with Civility Saves Lives
About this Event

Introducing Wonder, the 6th conference from Learning from Excellence, once again hosted in collaboration with Civity Saves Lives. Building on the success and impact of Hope (LFE5), this event aims to inspire and motivate professionals from the NHS and beyond. Themes and topics for the day will include forgiveness, safety-II, appreciation, awe, charity, compassion, and much more.


LFE6 Programme - Wonder

Session 1: The Wonder of Work

Dr Aly Walker, consultant paediatric cardiac anaesthetist: on her award-winning healthcare environment art design project

Prof Amar Shah , consultant forensic psychiatrist and national clinical director for improvement, NHSE: on creativity and joy in quality improvement

Dr Intikhab Zafurallah ("Zaf"), consultant paediatric intensivist: on charity missions providing access to paediatric cardiac surgery to low resource settings.


Session 2: Wonder of the mind:

Dr Iain McGilchrist (TBC), public intellectual and psychiatrist – on appreciation of beauty and models of understanding the world


Followed by panel: - on conceptualization of safety and implications for practice:

Dr Neil Spenceley, consultant paediatric intensivist and clinical diractor

Dr Joey Swani, resident doctor, anaesthesia

Ms Fran Ives, health ergonomist


Session 3: The Wonder of the heart:

Ms Marina Cantacuzino MBE, founder of The Forgiveness Project: on forgiveness and restoration.

A patient / relative perspective - speaker to be confirmed pending availability, on overcoming adversity

Mr Simon Martin, CEO of Group GTI, recruitment company: on leadership, AI, professional recruitment.


Session 4: Wonder in / of the World

Prof Rafael Hirschi, astrophysics professor at Keele university: on the Wonder of the Universe

Ms Sue Pennington, sustainability lead at Holkham estate, Norfolk: on sustainability and Wonder

Birmingham Royal Ballet soloists (TBC), on creating wonder
