About this Event

Starting at the old well outside Moubray House/John Knox House, Ruth will take you down through the Canongate, a separate burgh from Edinburgh until 19th century, exploring the lower part of the Royal Mile and the women who worked and lived there, finishing up at Holyrood Palace.

The tour will take one and half hours (90mins) in total, and will be outside with no shelter so please wrap up according to the weather conditions! There will be no toilet stops or seats along the way.

Where and when do we meet?

Please meet at the old well outside John Knox House/Moubray House clothing shop15 minutes before the tour is due to start.


Where will we finish?

We will finish at Holyrood Palace/Parliament area at the bottom of the Royal Mile.


Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Phone ticket is fine

Please be aware that there are no seats available along the route, so the tour will be on your feet, walking and standing. You are responsible for your own safety. Taking part in the tour means you are participating at your own risk. If you have pre-existing conditions that may be relevant or feel unwell during the tour, please let your guide know. You are also responsible for looking after your own belongings.

Your details will be kept by Ruth Boreham in the run up to the event, and for the purposes of sending you an email after the event with details of people and books mentioned during the tour. Your phone number is in case of any issues on the day.

Booking queries

Refunds are available up to 1 day before the event. Tickets are not transferable. Unfortunately we cannot take cash payment during the tour at the moment due to licensing requirements.
