About this Event
Join us for a special program researched and created by Kim White, a local master naturalist, who has had a lifelong interest in the natural world. Kim will introduce us to some of the women who have contributed to our understanding of natural history. Many women, proficient in a scientific or natural history discipline, were informally educated or self-taught, and rarely given the credit they deserved during their lifetimes, and many women have never been fully recognized for their accomplishments.
Our January 2026 General Meeting will follow the presentation.
Schedule for the evening:
6:30 p.m. Social Time - Enjoy visiting with our friendly members.
7:00 p.m. Program - Kim White presents "Women of Natural History," women historians and scientists from Queen Hatshepsut to Dame Jane Goodall
8:00 p.m. Darien Garden Club's General Meeting - Find out all about DGC and the activities available to our members.

Speaker Kim White, in her own words:
"I have always been in love with the natural world. My favorite times were when I was at camp walking in the woods, canoeing on a river, looking for tadpoles, turning over rocks to find hidden treasures, watching daddy longlegs, and being next to her grandmother in her farm garden. I strived to give my children these experiences, and now my four granddaughters. I volunteered as a docent at Brookfield Zoo for 10 years, followed by 10 years as an employee in their Education Department teaching school groups. I later worked as a tour guide for a pilgrimage company. taking people to Israel, Egypt, and Europe. I then took four years off to care for my beloved in-laws. Now, I am back to learning and teaching about the natural wonders of the world that can be found in our own backyards."
