With the support of London Higher and the BFI's Metro London Skills Cluster, Middlesex University are delighted to be hosting 'Women in Screen Production'.


This event places a special focus on nurturing new entrants in the screen industries, providing valuable insights on navigating challenges and becoming catalysts for positive cultural change.

The session will give space for changemakers to discuss changing the culture and highlight work that still needs to be done to support young women in screen industries


Panelists include:

Ita O'Brien is an Intimacy Coordinator and Movement Director for film, television, and theatre. She has taught at some of Britain's leading drama, opera and film schools, has published research, and her work has featured widely in the media. In 2017, Ita introduced the "Intimacy On Set Guidelines" as an industry standard to protect performers during scenes that involve intimacy, sexual content, and nudity. She has pioneered the role of Intimacy Coordinator, which is gaining adoption in leading production houses, including HBO, Netflix, and the BBC. In 2018, Ita founded to provide trained professional Intimacy Coordinators to the industry.


Rowan Aust is Co-Director at ReelTime Media. Rowan consults and devises methods on how to put theories of good work into practice in TV and film. She has published widely on practices and ethics of care in TV and film. As “an ex-TV person turned academic”, Rowan has followed a career in television production with an academic research focus on ethics of care and the felt experience of television production. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Bournemouth.


Babak Jani, Head of Skills for Film London oversees the screen agency’s skills initiatives, including the new Metro London Skills Cluster, dedicated to supporting the development of a skills pipeline for the screen industries including film, TV, games and animation. Experienced in the creative industry and passionate about education, Babak has led transformative initiatives, acknowledging that the vibrant tapestry of backgrounds and perspectives fuels innovation. Amidst this pivotal moment, he is committed to fortifying existing efforts and pioneering fresh avenues for inclusive growth.


Tania Reddin has a varied and distinguished career working as an editor on both British and American film and television. Tania's feature work has included Journey’s End (dir. Saul Dibb) Pierrepoint, Funny Cow, and Denmark (dir. Adrian Shergold) with whom she has collaborated for over 15 years. Tania's television credits include Dirty Filthy Love for which she received a BAFTA nomination, Fifty Fathoms/Sky's Guerrilla, Luther, Cilla, Low Winter Sun, as well as Sky’s Mad Dogs series and Generation K*ll (dir. Susanna White). Recent credits include Summerland, the debut feature film by award-winning theatre director and playwright Jessica Swale, The Salisbury Poisonings for BBC1 and Michael Winterbottom's This England.
