About this Event
Women were integral in popularizing silent film and making the industry an enormous financial success. Their expertise and creativity helped produce entertaining films, giving them positions of power and influence. As the studio system arose and financial and ruling elites took control, women found themselves out of favor, replaced, and mostly written out of history. Author Mary Mallory will explore such Universal and Warner Bros./First National female trailblazers as Lois Weber, Marion Fairfax, and Viola Lawrence and their contributions to the film history of the San Fernando Valley.
