About this Event
Join Just Economics, WeCount! and Working Films for a screening of Without Shade Without Rest, a new documentary produced by Six Eye Films, an independent nonprofit based in South Florida. The film looks at the fight to win heat protection for outdoor workers in Florida in the wake of the hottest year on record, following two frontline organizations, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and WeCount!, as they work to secure lasting protections for Florida’s outdoor laborers.
Since 2011, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers has built heat standards into its Fair Food Program through the Worker-driven Social Responsibility (WSR) model, which makes those standards enforceable on the ground. Now, as lawmakers move to block new regulations, other groups like WeCount! are expanding this proven approach to protect more workers across the state’s fields and nurseries. At the intersection of labor, climate, and politics, Without Shade Without Rest captures this pivotal turning point in the fight to protect outdoor workers as extreme heat intensifies.
Join us for this free screening and discussion to explore this historic fight for heat protections in Florida, and what it reveals about how workers can win safety, dignity, and lasting change in the face of extreme climate and political opposition.
Without Shade Without Rest was created by Six Eye Films, a nonprofit documentary organization dedicated to telling the stories that define life in the American South through rigorous journalism and visual storytelling.
A discussion & Q&A will follow the films
