About this Event
Discussion of Reproductive Rites: The Real-Life Witches and Witch Hunts in the Centuries-Long Fight for Abortion by Sophie Saint Thomas.
More than a book club - it's a salon!
Like the salons of yesteryear, this salon is more than just a book club - it's an intellectual, private gathering hosted by a salonnière to discuss literature, human rights, politics, science, and philosophy. A safe place to exchange ideas openly - with a focus on listening and speaking to each other, learning from your fellow guests at the salon. To facilitate the best discussion, seating is very limited, so order now!
The alchemy of salons turns thoughts into discussions, merges ideas & shifts paradigms, ends isolation, & the energy of which results in anything from ruffling the feathers of established power structures to social & political reforms.
This event includes a glass of locally made mead from , cheese & crackers, and a copy of the book, of course!
For those under 21 or who otherwise cannot or do not want alcohol, there are soda pop & water options.
All genders are welcome!
Following the salon, stay for more mead, discussion, and fun with the ! Let's celebrate spring & perhaps plot a feminist spring uprising...

More About The Book
From the publisher:
"A provocative pop history that explores the witches—and witch hunts—in the untold story of abortion, from the days of Socrates through the Salem Witch Trials and the 1980s Satanic Panic, all the way to our fraught present.
For millennia, across cultures and continents, both providers and recipients of reproductive healthcare and abortions have been persecuted as witches (whether they actually practiced the craft or not). In this dauntless reassessment of that history, journalist Sophie Saint Thomas follows the tangled threads of witches and reproductive rights through the ages.
Along the way, she maintains an intersectional eye toward the communities most affected by reproductive oppression (including Native Americans, enslaved Black women, and trans people) and offers a scathing look at the hypocrisy of anti-choice crusaders (from eugenicists in the Church of Satan to an astrology-following Republican First Lady). With heart, humor, and deeply researched insights, Reproductive Rites brings new context to the urgency of our ongoing fight."
"An unputdownable read for every feminist." Jennifer Wright
"An incisive critique of human prejudice and its historical consequences." Alan Kilpatrick
