About this Event
Presented in collaboration with and hosted by Ben Escobedo of Shure and Peter Schneider of Gotham Sound.
This seminar will explore the evolving wireless microphone landscape with a focus on the practical needs of film and television production. As RF spectrum continues to tighten, new opportunities are emerging—including access to additional bands such as portions of the 1.4 GHz range (1435–1525 MHz), the introduction of Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems (WMAS) and other regulatory changes.
While some of these newer allocations may be better suited to large-scale live events or fixed installations, they signal a broader shift toward more flexible and efficient spectrum use. For production sound teams working on location, these changes have real implications for how systems are planned, coordinated, and deployed in increasingly congested RF environments.
Attendees will gain practical insight into how these developments translate to actionable guidance to help navigate today’s spectrum challenges, including:
- best practices for band planning
- frequency coordination
- system deployment across a variety of shooting conditions.
The session will also cover preparing for what’s next, including how WMAS and other developing technology may fit into future production toolkits, coexistence with traditional narrowband systems, and strategies for maintaining reliable performance in dense urban or high-interference environments.
We will allow walk-ins as space allows, but please RSVP to guarantee yourself a seat; registration is free and open to all. The Expo itself and each individual seminar have a separate RSVP list, available from here.
The Wireless Microphone Spectrum Alliance (WMSA) is a proactive, unincorporated, not-for-profit coalition* of stakeholders, including end users, live production service providers, manufacturers and RF/audio professionals, committed to ensuring wireless microphones’ access to RF spectrum.
