Join WiPA Scotland for our 2026 International Women's Day (IWD) celebration.
Inspired by this year’s theme, “Give to Gain”, WiPA Scotland is hosting a training-focused event designed to equip and empower women working across the sector. This session will centre on practical skills development, offering you the opportunity to gain valuable insights while networking with women across the industry.
The event will feature a panel of expert speakers , Sara Thiam, Philippa Gerrard and Susan Love , each delivering a focused session on key professional development areas. Topics will include media training, public speaking, and career progression within public affairs, providing tangible tips, tools and strategies that can be directly applied to your career.
About our panel
Sara is Chief Executive of Prosper (The Scottish Council for Development and Industry), which brings together business, industry, trade unions and civic society to grow Scotland's economy. She represents members’ interests on the Scottish Business Growth Group and the Scottish Government's New Deal for Business Group. Sara is a former Director for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in Scotland and member of the Infrastructure Commission for Scotland. She chaired the Green Heat Finance Taskforce and her non-exec roles include Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (now BE-ST).
Philippa is an award-winning former journalist now working in strategic communications. Since October 2022, she has been an Account Director at 56° North in Edinburgh, supporting a range of clients with their communications goals. She has developed a particular interest and specialism in fintech, working across the agency’s fintech client base to deliver new campaigns, ideas and fresh thinking. Before moving into communications, Pip spent seven years as a journalist, most recently working at the Press & Journal in Aberdeen.
Susan is the Strategic Engagement Lead for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Scotland, the global professional body for professional accountants. Susan serves as a member of Prosper’s policy committee and, until recently, was also a long-serving board member for the Economic Development Association of Scotland. Susan began her career working for former Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Sir George Reid, and serving as an elected member of Stirling Council.
