About this Event
Join us on Wednesday, December 4th, for our Winter Song Circle celebrating local artists! Led by Nick Carswell, featuring Fritz Hutchison and Miki P, the song circle will celebrate each artists individual tallent as well as their ability to collaborate.
Nick Carswell, from Carswell & Hope, is a musician and songwritter originally from Limerick, Ireland. in Carswell & Hope, Nick brings vintage rock sounds and sensibilities together with big harmonies, carefully crafted textures and inventive songwriting, to create a sound and experience all of their own. Nick has also made award-winning short films, produced radio programs, and created large scale public art projects in Lawrence and Kansas City. Nick has wide experience with arts & cultural non-profits, community organizing, public art and professional development. He is currently program manager for the Audio-Reader Network, an audio information service for individuals with print-disabilities.
Fritz Hutchison is a drummer and a singer and a songwriter and a guitarist and a producer and a bandmate and a bandleader and a friend and a sibling and a Gemini and a Kansas Citian and a banjo player and he just wants to do a good job and make it fun for everybody. Performing the majority of the instrumentation himself, Fritz's music weaves through a myriad of genres with playful abandon, with an undercurrent of americana roots that has been described asis “a horn laden indie pop gem” (the pitch). Surrounding lyrical themes of friendships come and gone, the celebrations of chosen love and lamentations of personal loss are clothed in raucous horns, flowing strings, driving guitars and buoyant percussion.
Miki P is a Midwest-based musician, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and performer. She creates music that reflects a lifetime of listening; writing songs as a way of journaling and healing. Her melodious roots stem from classic to modern rock and pop, which you can hear influenced throughout her songs. Whether she is performing as a freelance musician, with her acoustic band The Swallowtails, or by herself solo, she is known for her captivating stage presence and melancholy musical compositions. Listeners have referred to Miki’s music as a nod to 70s rock songstresses such as Carole King, Stevie Nicks, and Karen Carpenter, combined with 90s-00s pop sensibilities spanning artists like Alanis Morissette, The Cranberries, and Sheryl Crow.
These artists are immensely talented and we are thrilled to have them at Waldo Folk!
