Vetrnaetr or Winternights was a Norse winter festival that was initially celebrated in pre-Christian Scandinavia. It is said that Winter Nights is one of the three most important festivals. It is a festival that marks the end of summer, the start of the winter, and the beginning of a new year. It is a time in which a blót (sacrifice/blessing to the Norse gods and Elves ) is done to thank them for a successful end to the growing season and to ask for protection against the harshness of winter. As we enter the dark of winter, The Fellowship of Yggdrasil will meet to honor our ancestors, the Landvættir (spirits of the land), and the deities of winter. The blót will begin at 7 PM and will be followed by a sumbel.
The Fellowship of Yggdrasil blóts are 21 and over only. All blòts are bring your own drink and drinking vessel. Mead and wine are traditionally used in blóts. Attendees are welcome to bring either, or a non-alcoholic beverage to consume during the blót and sumbel. Hard liquor is NOT allowed and anyone who brings hard liquor or gets intoxicated will be asked to leave.
