For those planning to do the Jan. 18 Michigan Adventure Race: Winter Ed., any other navigation-based race, or if you just want to learn! Learn how to read a topographic map, orienteer/take a bearing with a compass and use route-selection and other strategies to navigate from one point to another. - Please register and sign the online waiver here: https://www.bikereg.com/mar-winter-navigation-clinic
- SOUTH/CONSERVATION entrance.
- Open air so dress for the weather.
- Bring a baseplate compass (plastic base with straight edge; Bill & Paul's in GR has good ones; Meijer may have cheaper, lower quality ones) or sighting compass (base plate type is easier to use)
- We have baseplate compasses you can borrow if you can't bring one
- Free
- 45 minutes of "classroom" instruction; 1-1.25 hours of in-field, small group practice.
We have installed a permanent orienteering course here with posts with orange-painted tops so if you want to practice on your own before or after the clinic, download the map at www.miadventurerace.com/learn-more/permanent-orienteering-course
