About this Event
This tour is NEW in 2025 and has no overlap with my other two Oakwood tours!
This tour is pay-what-you-want ! If you enjoy the tour, please compensate your guide appropriately at the end of the tour! CASH OR VENMO PAYMENTS ONLY please! Usually, I receive $15 to $20 per adult, but you are free to give more or less than that, depending on how you feel about your tour. As you can imagine, I have to work hard to earn your appreciation!
Tours are pay-what-you-want, but advance registration is REQUIRED. I need to monitor the number of people on the tour, and I also need to be able to communicate with you if the tour needs to be cancelled due to the weather or low signups.
This tour requires a minimum number of signups in order to run! If the minimum number is not reached, the tour will be cancelled. You will receive either a tour confirmation email with some last minute details or a cancellation email through Eventbrite no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of the tour. Please check your email the day before the tour and please read any email that you receive about the tour through Eventbrite!
Join us for a delightful tour through the northern section of the historic Oakwood neighborhood in Raleigh. This enchanting journey will take you past beautiful homes, each with its unique architectural style and festive spirit.
On this tour, you will see some charming older houses along with some of the later architectural styles to emerge in the neighborhood and a modern house as well. This informative winter walking tour is perfect for the entire family and for guests who are in town for the holidays!
PLEASE NOTE: I have purposely designed this tour to be on the short side to account for the colder winter weather! This tour will last approximately 1 hour but may be slightly shorter or longer depending on the size and speed of the group. I will not provide in-depth information about the general history of the neighborhood as I do at the very beginning of my other Oakwood tours. This tour will be focused on the houses themselves, so we will leave the starting point very quickly on this tour in order to begin seeing the beautiful homes!
We will start on the northern side of the neighborhood at the Oakwood Commons Park, which is located at the corner of N. East and Boundary streets. The address of the park is 535 N. East. St. The tour is just a few blocks long and will end less than a block away from the starting point.
Plenty of free street parking is available in the Oakwood neighborhood, and you can park for an unlimited amount of time on Saturdays and Sundays. For any tour on a weekday, please note that some of the parking spaces in the neighborhood have a 2-hour time limit.
And, yes, there will be tours on Tuesday and Friday afternoons for those of you who have some time off around the holidays!
We will NOT be entering any of the homes on the tour; we will be viewing the exteriors only. In addition, there will not be any restroom breaks or stops for food/drinks.
