Jane Lopes, Master Sommelier, Founder of LEGEND Imports, and author of Vignette: Stories Of Life And Wine In 100 Bottles is back at DECANTsf with her new book, How to Drink Australian.

About Jane Lopes:

Jane Lopes graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in Renaissance literature and a passion for food, wine, and spirits. Taking a year off after college to apply to grad school, she stumbled upon a job in wine retail. Within a few months, Jane abandoned her academic aspirations and opted for a career in the beverage industry.

She started picking up shifts at the nationally acclaimed cocktail bar The Violet Hour. In August 2011, Jane moved to Nashville to become the opening Beverage Director at The Catbird Seat. Her unique style of beverage pairings and program approach gained recognition in the New York Times, Imbibe, and Wine Enthusiast.

After relocating to New York in 2013, Jane worked as a sommelier at Eleven Madison Park, contributing to the restaurant's achievement as the #1 on the San Pellegrino World's 50 Best List. In 2017, she was recruited to lead the beverage program at Attica, widely regarded as Australia's best restaurant. In September 2018, Jane passed the prestigious Master Sommelier exam, becoming the only woman in Australia and one of 34 women globally (and 274 people overall since the 1960s) to do so.

Finally putting her literature degree to use, Jane published her first book, "Vignette: Stories of Life & Wine in 100 Bottles." She followed this up in 2023 with "How to Drink Australian", an Essential Modern Wine Book, which she co-authored with her husband Jon Ross. Jane currently resides in Nashville, TN, where she and Jon run Legend, a wine import company with the mission of bringing Americans really great Australian wine.
