Ever wonder how wine professionals seem to pull flavors out of thin air or describe a wine with poetic precision? In this three-part series, we’ll demystify the wine tasting process and teach you the techniques professionals use to evaluate, understand, and speak about wine with confidence.

Class 1, Jan 20: How to Smell and Taste Wine
Learn the foundational steps of wine tasting—from the swirl to the sniff to the sip. We’ll explore how to identify aromas and recognize key flavor cues.

Class 2, Jan 27: Recognizing Structure: Acidity, Tannin, Body, Finish
Go beyond flavor and dive into wine’s architecture. We’ll break down the structural elements that give wine its texture, mouthfeel, and longevity.

Class 3, Feb 3: How to Talk About Wine (Flavor Words)
Build your wine vocabulary and gain confidence describing what’s in your glass. We’ll taste and discuss a range of wines, practicing how to articulate aromas, textures, and finishes in a way that’s both accurate and approachable.

Whether you’re just getting into wine or looking to sharpen your skills, this series will give you the tools to taste more thoughtfully and talk about wine like a pro.

Please note: This mini-series will be similar but not identical to that previously offered in May 2025.
A minimum number of seats must be sold in order to hold the class. If those are not sold within three days of the first class, the series will be canceled or rescheduled.

1. Three seated wine classes in the Curio Wine Cellar with Johnny Puckett, Curio & Rogers Ford Farm Winery owner and winemaker (WSET 3).
2. Guided tasting of wines (style and quantity will vary with class topic)
3. Small plate of crackers and artisan cheese selected to accompany the wines.
4. Discounts on bottle purchases of all wines tasted

Curio wines classes are designed for everyone, whether you are new to the world of wine or a wine expert. We will explore and discover new aspects of wine together. Classes are held in the Curio Wine Bar’s Wine Cellar, which is accessed down a flight of stairs. Everyone attending need to be 21 and over (this also pertains to infants and children).
