The 5th edition of our Wine List Takeover events comes around as we're slowly crawling our way out of winter and into spring. Brash Higgins is one of McLaren Vale’s most adventurous and innovative wine producers, founded by former New York sommelier and wine writer Brad Hickey (nicknamed “Brash”) and his partner, vigneron Nicole Thorpe. Since its first vintage in 2010, Brash Higgins has gained a cult following for its boundary-pushing approach to winemaking—embracing amphora fermentations, lesser-known varieties, and hands-off techniques that celebrate the natural character of the vineyard.
The estate vineyards in McLaren Vale are farmed with sustainability at the forefront, combining organic practices with a respect for old vines and minimal intervention in the cellar.
Brash Higgins is renowned for its eclectic and distinctive range:
Amphora Wines – Fermented and aged in Italian terracotta amphorae, including Nero d’Avola, Zibibbo (skin-contact), and Mataro.
Alternative Varieties – Bold explorations of Saperavi, Teroldego, and Aglianico.
Regional Staples – Textural Shiraz and Grenache that highlight McLaren Vale’s pedigree.
Experimental Releases – Limited bottlings that blur the line between tradition and innovation.
Each wine reflects a philosophy of exploration, texture, and drinkability, often with a touch of the unexpected.
We will have the following available on the day to taste, drink by the glass or grab a bottle.
