About this Event
Terroir - this French word is for the idea that wine should express a sense of where it was grown. Perhaps the closest English translation is “placefulness.” It encompasses all the characteristics of vineyards - climate, soil, elevation, orientation - each of which can have a surprising impact on the final wine. In our Terroir Focus classes, we want to shine the spotlight on a specific aspect of terroir and see how it expresses itself in wines from around the world.
Wind may be one of the least considered aspects of terroir, yet it affects a great deal about how grapes grow. Wind can moderate temperatures or bring warmth from far away air currents. Wind can protect grapes from pests and blights but also damage grapes during storm activity. In several areas around the world, named winds are the lifeblood of wine-growing regions, allowing viticulture to flourish where it otherwise may have struggled. Join us in this exploration of this most ethereal aspect of terroir!
Must be 21+ to attend.
