About this Event
As viticulture spread and developed around the world, winegrowers often found that certain grapes became the stars of specific regions, so Cabernet Sauvignon is heralded both in its home of Bordeaux but also in areas like Napa. Similarly, Pinot Noir is beloved in Burgundy but also the Willamette Valley. This can leave us with a fixed picture in our minds of where certain grapes can come from, yet the history of wine is a history of experimentation, and some of the most delightful wines come from grapes growing where you might not expect.
In this class, Anita Bender will feature wines grown from grapes you might not associate with a particular area. Unexpected combos will include Cabernet Sauvignon from Friuli in Northern Italy and Chardonnay from Mexico. You will taste native Italian varietals flowering in places as far flung as California and South Australia. As you taste, you will explore the reasons these grapes grow in such unexpected places and what the future might hold for these varieties.
Must be 21+ to attend.
