Willow Christmas Decoration Weaving – Join us for a wonderful day of festive willow weaving, making a selection of Christmas Decorations with tutors Judi Evans and Glenys Newton.
Get into the festive spirit and learn to weave your own Christmas decorations. We will be making trees, stars and 2D reindeers using willow, paper and English rush.
You will complete a variety of handmade decorations, ready to adorn your home for the Christmas holidays.
All materials and tools will be provided and you will leave the day with a selection of Christmas decorations to keep or to give as gifts. Once you have learned the techniques you will be able to make as many as you are able to within the time frame. You might well be going home with arm loads of willow decorations!
Please note that all weaving and willow work requires a certain degree of flexibility, especially in the hands.
Judi is a regular stallholder at our Tudor Square and Southern Maltings markets. She first discovered her love of basketry 16 years ago, but it wasn’t until 2017 that she had the opportunity to immerse herself more fully in the fascinating craft. In 2018 she spent a year learning with Cambridgeshire Basket maker Debbie Hall, who taught her many willow skills which she further developed in 2019 through a City and Guilds Certification in creative Basketry. She continues to hone and develop her skills, learning with basket makers across the UK and running beginners workshops locally for small groups, where she hopes to pass on her love and enthusiasm for this ancient craft. Judi is a member of the Basket Makers’ Association, The Heritage Craft Association and Hertfordshire Basketry.
Glenys Newton is a talented basket weaver who runs regular willow weaving workshops at Park Farm in Chrishall, near Royston, Hertfordshire.
