ABOUT THIS MONTH'S LECTURE:
William Marsh was once a close confidant to the founders of Vermont, but ostracized after signing on with General Burgoyne’s army on the advance that culminated in the Battle of Saratoga. Why did Marsh choose to turn Loyalist? How did he influence the pursuit of Vermont independence? What happened to his Vermont legacy after turning Loyalist? What was his life like after the war? What was his connection to the Ethan Allen Homestead?
Come learn more about William Marsh, one of the featured "Voices of the Revolution" in the Ethan Allen Homestead Museum's newest exhibit commemorating America's 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Dan Cole is a lifelong Vermonter whose heritage is half French-Canadian and half Scots-Irish. He is proud that his 10th great-grandfather, Abraham Martin, helped found Quebec City in 1610, and whose neighbor was Samuel de Champlain. Dan is a graduate of the University of Vermont with degrees in history and literature. He chose a career in the Postal Service, because, in his words, “it paid far better than teaching did at the time.” His interest in history was renewed when he toured a cemetery in his hometown of Charlotte and found two gravestones of two local men who died during the Civil War. His curiosity and subsequent research over two decades resulted in a two-volume history of Charlotte in the Civil War, with Volume 1 already published and Volume 2 nearing completion. This brought him in contact with the Charlotte Historical Society, where he currently serves as President. He has made presentations throughout the state on various Civil War subjects, and has written numerous articles on town history for his local newspaper. Dan signed on as a volunteer with the Ethan Allen Homestead in 2024, and continues to serve as both a tour guide and researcher.
