Join polar explorer Will Steger and expedition veteran Julie Hignall for a compelling, gear-focused conversation on what it really takes to cross the Arctic. The program will be moderated by KARE 11 reporter Heidi Wigdahl.Framed by the realities of a harsh, shifting environment—volatile weather and constantly moving sea ice—they’ll bring the expedition to life through the tools that make it possible. From sleds and sextant navigation to cold-weather clothing, tents, sleeping systems, and cooking setups, they’ll break down how each piece of gear functions in extreme conditions. Will Steger will share stories from his expeditions and showcase the actual gear used in the field—bringing audiences closer than ever to the realities of polar exploration.
Gear from the expedition will be on stage, with an opportunity to get a closer look and ask questions following the talk—making this a rare, hands-on glimpse into life at the edge of the planet.
The program starts at 2:00 pm in the 3M Auditorium and is pay-what-you-will with a $15/$12 suggested ticket price.
This program is made possible by the Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
