The tracks and sign of other animals, who we share ecosystems with, are all around us! Join wildlife biologist Abi Fergus to learn how to recognize and identify the traces animals leave behind from bear tracks to the mushrooms squirrels leave in trees to dry. We will go over resources for learning tracking, inspect skulls and feathers, and learn about animals through tracking stories Abi will present with photos and videos. Tracking can help us learn more about and be more connected to our environment. All ages are welcome to attend.
Abi Fergus (they/them) is a trained wildlife biologist and has worked for the Bad River Tribe, as well as other Tribes and tribal organizations, to conserve species including the gray wolf, the piping plover, and the wood turtle. Abi has been trained in the field, through Tracker Certification North America, and in academia to understand animal behavior, wildlife tracking, ecology, and law. Abi has used these skills to help farmers and other people on the land have more tools and understanding in order to coexist with carnivores in particular. Abi got their bs degree in biology and environmental policy at Alma College and their ms degree in environment and resources at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where they studied in the Carnivore Coexistence Lab. Abi now lives outside of Ann Arbor on a micro farm they are establishing to foster food and habitat for wildlife and humans.
