About this Event
have been hosting visitors for over twenty years here on the secluded southern shore of Loch Tay, Highland Perthshire.
We are pleased to welcome Tine Barkmann, professional open water swim coach and mountain guide. Cold water swimming in Scotland whether in the lochs or the sea has become her happy place and she is looking forward to sharing her experience and expertise with you.
The ancient woodland by the shore has a peaceful power and walking and sitting quietly in this magical place will calm and centre you (in Japan this is called Shinrin Yoku or Forest Bathing).
We'll take you on a journey where you'll "bathe" in the beauty of ancient woodland and swim in the loch giving you a healing day before you emerge re-energised and ready for life's inevitable challenges.
After your swim (having changed into warm layers in the cosy gazebo complete with space heaters) you'll be welcomed round the campfire and given a warm drink with time to enjoy the companionship of those who've shared this experience with you before heading home.
Plan for the day -
Before the day we'll ask you to complete a short confidential questionnaire about your health and your open water swimming experience (beginners welcome) and we will provide you with additional information about what to expect from the swim.
Arrival 10.30am (parking at Kindrochit Farm)
Welcome introduction and hot drink where you will have the chance to ask questions and meet other guests.
You will then commence the day with a short walk through magical woodland and over fields to reconnect you with nature arriving at a private shingle beach with a small encampment of tents and an open fire. (We can transport swim kit etc to the camp for you.)
Tine will give an informative workshop about Open Water Swimming and explain how she is going to manage your experience to optimise your safety, enjoyment and understanding of the physical and mental benefits of this particular type of swim.
The Swim: No more than 5 guest swimmers will be coached by Tine at any one time to maximise your experience so there may be up to 3 sessions throughout the day to accommodate all guests and all abilities. The duration of the actual swim will be managed by Tine depending on the variables of the day. As this is a cold water immersion experience we don't want you to get too cold.
Wetsuits are optional - this experience is designed for those who dare to don their swim things, put on a brightly coloured swim cap and step right in. No extra kit is required except some footwear suitable for swimming in or swim socks if you have them and we've got spare swim caps too.
When you're not swimming at any point you will find the opportunity to continue your exploration of wilderness with the choice of walking, kayaking, or simply enjoying space to contemplate on the shore.
A light buffet lunch with an emphasis on warming, nutritious and mainly vegetarian dishes will be served from the tent and hot drinks will be available throughout the day.
Departure - any time between 3-4 to suit you.
