We’ve been in a dry stretch, but the rains are returning—and the forest is responding.
With consistent rainfall expected over the next week and a half, conditions are lining up for a strong summer flush. Mushrooms are already beginning to emerge from the last rain, and this window looks especially promising for chanterelles, boletes, amanitas, russulas, and more.
This small-group foraging walk is designed to help you slow down, learn the landscape, and begin to recognize the patterns that bring mushrooms to life.
Led by Josh Wayne of Josh Wayne Wellness, this experience blends hands-on identification with a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that support fungal growth.
Josh brings over 15 years of foraging experience in Georgia and has personally consumed more than 100 species of wild mushrooms. He has guided over 1,000 people through Atlanta’s forests, teaching how to safely identify edible, medicinal, and toxic species while building a respectful relationship with the land.
In addition to mushrooms, we’ll also touch on wild edible plants, tree identification, and the ecological relationships that make these environments thrive.
What you’ll learn:
• How to begin identifying common summer mushrooms
• Key features of chanterelles, boletes, amanitas, russulas, and more
• Safety fundamentals and lookalikes to avoid
• Ethical and sustainable foraging practices
• How rainfall, soil, and trees influence mushroom growth
Details:
• 📍 North Druid Hills park (exact location shared after registration)
• 🎟️ Limited spots available
• 🌧️ Rain or shine — light rain often improves the experience
This is a chance to step into the forest at the right moment—when the ground is waking up and the mushrooms are beginning to push through.
Chanterelles are already emerging in Atlanta and the rain coming will bring them out in large numbers!
