About this Event
About This Event
Groveland and its neighboring communities are home to more than 80 species of edible wild plants — many more nutritious and flavorful than their cultivated counterparts.
Join naturalist and wild edibles expert Russ Cohen for a 1.5-hour guided ramble through the Miyawaki Forest and surrounding areas at Veasey Park. You’ll learn to identify at least two dozen edible species, including:
• Native plants like Black Elderberry and Common Milkweed
• Non-native species like Burdock and Chicory
• Invasive species like Autumn Olive and Japanese Knotweed
Russ will share:
• Keys to plant identification
• Edible portions and seasonal availability
• Preparation methods
• Safe, ethical, environmentally responsible foraging practices
And yes — he’ll bring samples of foraged goodies to sip and nibble.
You will never look at a “W**d” the same way again.
About the Miyawaki Forest
Miyawaki forests grow 10x faster, are 30x denser, contain 100x more biodiversity, and absorb 16x more carbon than conventionally planted forests — making Veasey Park a living laboratory for ecological restoration.
