About this Event
The Cherokee believed that the world of plants provided everything humans needed to live an abundant life – be it food, medicine, shelter, or clothing. They weren’t wrong.
We’re in the middle of one of the most biologically diverse forests on earth, and it’d be a shame not to take advantage of it. In this 1-day course, you’ll learn how to identify and utilize over 30 common Eastern trees, plants, and herbs, learn which plants to stay away from, and how to make a variety of useful plant medicines.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
How to identify over 30 wild edible and medicinal plants
Ecosystem based identification – what to look for, where
How to make a salad out of what’s growing in your yard, no matter where you live
The universal edibility test – how to determine if a plant is safe to eat, no matter where you find yourself
How to identify the southeast’s deadly and dangerous plants to steer clear of
How to make a medicinal poultice, infusion, and tincture
And here’s what else you’ll get with the course:
A hot, home-cooked lunch to keep you going throughout the day
Unlimited email support with our instructors after the class is over
No prior experience is required for this class, but we recommend bringing a daypack with some basic necessities (see our FAQs for what we suggest) and comfortable shoes for hiking. Recognizing the resources around you and being able to effectively make use of them is one of the most timeless and empowering skills you can learn. Let us give you a leg up, the right way.
