About this Event
You are invited to Wikipedia for Librarians and Information Professionals, a two-day workshop in Indianapolis for librarians and information and cultural professionals.
Since 2023, cultural institutions partnering with Indiana Memory have hosted over 2 dozen editathons and contributed over 300,000 images to Wikimedia Commons, collectively recording 25 million page views from this initiative. Come learn from our experiences!
Expert presenters will provide a general Wikipedia introduction and training on topics such as Wikipedia events and editathons, multimedia upload/editing, and metrics for impact. We will talk about tactics for approaching the Wikipedia community, image rights and metadata, model projects for various institutional contexts. All are welcome, but this program is especially targeted at staff who work with digital collections, and we especially encourage attendance from contributors to Indiana Memory and other nearby DPLA hubs.
Attend
There will be no registration fee to attend. We welcome attendees from beyond Indianapolis. For attendees traveling from the greater region, we will be offering limited travel stipends, (please answer the question in the registration form) with support from The Library Fund of Indianapolis.
This workshop will be held the two days following the 2026 Best Practices Exchange conference, which is being held at the nearby IU Indianapolis Luddy School of Informatics, and we invite BPE attendees to extend their trip to attend!
Organizers
The organizers of this event have collectively been involved in Wikipedia for decades, with extensive experience training on the use of Wikipedia in an institutional context. We have previously organized WikiConference North America at IU Indianapolis in 2024. This workshop is a project of the Central Indiana Wikipedia Partnership, organized by Indiana University Indianapolis and Wikimedians of Indiana, with funding from The Library Fund of Indianapolis and hosting provided by the Indiana State Library.
