A funded training & awareness session for the wider public health workforce on topics identified by and for local frontline professionals.
About this Event

These Wider Workforce Learning sessions are a programme of training and awareness sessions, funded by NHS England.

Topics for each session have been identified by frontline professionals working in the local community. Each facilitated session will be led by an expert on the topic and is an opportunity to learn more about the session focus and to network with other local professionals who have an interest in this area.

This session's focus will be on Appropriate referrals to mental health services (VCSE and NHS).

This will be led by Joy O’Neill at Community Impact Bucks from the VCSE Mental Health Collaboration project, and colleagues from Oxford Health who work in statutory mental health services in Buckinghamshire.

During the Project's VCSE Mental Health 2025 Research, organisations in Buckinghamshire conveyed that receiving inappropriate service user referrals was one of their biggest challenges, often with incomplete information and that did not always accurately reflect needs and risks of the service user. Those from statutory sectors told us that they were often unclear as to the information VCSE organisations required to be able to complete an appropriate referral.

Join us for this co-creation workshop where we'll work with both VCSE organisations and statutory organisations to co-design what appropriate referrals look like and how this can be implemented across Buckinghamshire.

The sessions are available to anyone working in the wider public health workforce. This means anyone contributing to public health in some way through their actions and can include healthcare professionals, those working in social care and social work, VCSE sector organisations, Ph*rm*cy, dentistry, education, first responders, community support. This is not an exhaustive list and if you would like more information on the wider public health workforce, this is a helpful link - https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/working-health/working-public-health/public-health-workforce-explained/wider-public-health-workforce

Sessions are free to attend for all. Tea and coffee will be provided free of charge at this particular session.
