Come dance with us!Join the WIDance team as we slide, bounce, wiggle, roll, and dance our way into Term 1, 2026!
Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just starting out, our classes are designed to be accessible, engaging, and fun for everyone.
Our classes offer a safe and inclusive space to find joy, laughter, and creative expression through contemporary dance, improvisation, dance-based games, and composition. Through movement, we build body and space awareness, confidence, and connection.
Wellington Youth Class:
Looking for a fun, creative, and confidence-boosting activity for your young person? Our six-week Youth Dance program is designed for young people aged 7–16 (flexible) to learn, play, and grow through the art of movement.
Over the term, dancers will:
💃 Build foundations in contemporary dance
🧠 Develop body awareness and coordination
🎭 Engage in social, team-building games and improvisation
🎨 Explore creativity with props and playful movement tasks
We celebrate individuality — each student is encouraged to move in their own way, discover new skills, and enjoy the magic of expressing themselves through dance. Whether a beginner or experienced, every dancer is welcome!
Wellington Open Class:
Our open class has been running for 15 years and is a vibrant, welcoming space where dancers of all experience levels come together to move, create, and express themselves. Each session blends technique, improvisation, and choreography, giving you room to explore your own rhythm and creativity.
This year, our technique work now includes exercises from Stopgap Dance Company’s UK-based IRIS syllabus — an inclusive, dynamic approach that supports strength, awareness, and artistry for everybody.
"IRIS is an inclusive dance syllabus that gives teachers a framework to develop the disabled dancers of tomorrow. It is a consolidation of Stopgap’s experience of training professional disabled dancers, and it contains tried and tested methods that the company has been developing since 1995.
IRIS is divided into four levels: Include, Respond, Integrate and Specialise, each having its own set exercises, guidelines and assessments. IRIS will give disabled children and young people the same level of structure, balance and rigour of dance education as their non-disabled peers and provide the opportunity to accumulate skills and experiences necessary for the professional industry".
