Pink paper? Green paper? We don't have to choose! We'll play around with pink and green paper pulps, inspired by the movie Wicked, as we make handmade sheets, paper shapes, and maybe even a 3D cast item. ** Attendees who take this workshop along with the Origami Safari class in the afternoon are welcome to bring a nut-free lunch to enjoy during our break. In this beginner-friendly workshop for kids, we'll focus on Western-style papermaking. We'll talk a bit about making paper at home before diving into our colorful experimentation. **The paper will not be ready to take home that day. Participants can arrange a pickup time or to have their paper shipped for an additional fee.
Kids should be prepared to have their hands in pulpy water for most of the session. They should dress appropriately for getting a bit wet. Kids with sensory issues may have a harder time with this activity. Paper pulp sticks to your hands. If this is a concern, you can try medical gloves (preferably non-latex). Unfortunately, we do not have youth gloves sizes. This class is geared toward kids ages 8-13 who can follow basic directions and work with independence. If there are teens over 13 who are interested in this class, or making paper in general, please reach out and let us know.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE. We will have hard copies avialable on site. Please also refer to our parking and accessibility information. Youth participants must have an adult bring them into the building and pick them up when the workshop is done. In addition, we ask for emergency contact numbers if you will not be staying on site.
