This event, structured into three engaging sessions, will delve into the science, interpretation, and impact of dreams from various perspectives.
Session 1: Neuroscience of Dreams
13:00 - 14:30
Start the afternoon with a deep dive into the neural processes of dreaming as Professor Mark Solms, a renowned neuropsychologist, explores "Why Do We Dream?" Following, Consultant Neurologist Dr Pietro Luca Ratti will address REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder and its link to our dreaming minds. This session concludes with a tea break, offering a moment to reflect on these insights, connect with fellow attendees, and explore our gallery of dream-related art!
Session 2: Technology and Research Innovations

Rejoin us for an exploration of the intersection between artificial intelligence and dream research, presented by Dr Rui Ponte Costa. Following this, early-career researchers will present key studies in our Journal Club, where 3-4 papers on dream research will be discussed in 10-minute segments. A second tea break provides a welcome pause before the final session.
Session 3: The Arts and Philosophy of Dreams
16:20 - 18:30
The concluding session opens with an inspiring performance and talk on dreams in the arts by award-winning musician Kristina Arakelyan. This is followed by discussions on the philosophical dimensions of dreams by Professor Matthew Soteriou. Dr Louise Braddock then discusses psychoanalytic theory, drawing upon artistic perspectives to understand dreaming. The symposium wraps up with a panel discussion, allowing attendees to engage with speakers and deepen their understanding of dreams from a rich, multi-disciplinary perspective.
