About this Event
Why Conventional Asian Discipline Doesn't Work - (and what to do instead) - Parenting Workshop @ Mulberry Learning Centre Marymount
No one wants to yell at or cane their kids — parents are just at their wits’ end, and don’t know what else to do. If the research is clear that conventional Asian discipline tactics — like spankings, time-outs, and punishments — don’t work, why do they still have such a hold on us?
What can parents do instead? In this talk, award-winning journalist-turned-parent educator, Kelly Tay, and founder of Juicy Parenting, will share why it’s important to parent from a place of connection, not fear — and how this can help us raise truly resilient kids.
Join us for an introspective evening of learning with practical tips and tools to equip yourself with for your parenting journey ahead. We will discuss hot topics like Positive Parenting, How to Deepen your Connection with Your Child, Transitioning to Primary One, and more!

Speaker's Bio
Kelly Tay
Kelly is a certified parent educator, the founder of Juicy Parenting, author, and a mother of two. Through her children’s picture book, courses, and online membership, she teaches Asian parents how to lead with calm and confidence, not fear and force — so that children stay close with family because they want to, not because they feel obliged to.
With the vast majority of Respectful Parenting resources coming from the US/UK, Kelly’s distinctly Asian point-of-view makes her a unique voice in the space.
Prior to her career pivot into parent education, she was an award-winning journalist who spent a decade in financial writing. She is a Fulbright scholar (Columbia University), and continues to provide parenting commentaries in the media.
